# High Pressure Jetting That Restores Full Flow And Prevents Future Blockages

Standard drain clearance removes the blockage. High-pressure jetting scours the entire pipe wall — stripping grease, scale, roots, and deposits that cause blockages to return. The result is a pipe that flows like new.

## What Is High Pressure Drain Jetting?

High-pressure drain jetting uses a focused stream of water at pressures up to 4,000 PSI (pounds per square inch) to scour the internal walls of drain pipes. A specialist nozzle, attached to a high-pressure hose, is inserted into the drain and propelled forward by its own jets while rear-facing jets clean the pipe wall behind it.

Unlike mechanical drain clearance — which punches a hole through a blockage — jetting cleans the full bore of the pipe. Grease coatings, mineral scale, soap residue, silt, tree root fibres, and compacted waste are blasted from the pipe wall and flushed downstream to the nearest manhole for removal.

Jetting is effective on pipes from 50mm kitchen waste lines to 600mm main drainage systems. It is the preferred maintenance method for commercial kitchens, food processing facilities, and any drainage system prone to grease or fat accumulation.

For domestic properties, jetting is recommended when recurring blockages indicate a buildup within the pipe that standard clearance cannot remove. A single jetting session can restore a heavily fouled pipe to near-original condition, dramatically reducing the frequency of future blockages.

## Why Standard Drain Clearance Is Not Enough

A standard electromechanical drain machine clears a path through the blockage. It restores flow — but it leaves the deposits clinging to the pipe walls intact. Within weeks or months, the remaining deposits narrow the pipe bore again, and the blockage returns.

This is why many homeowners find themselves calling a drain company every few months for the same problem. The blockage is cleared, flow is restored, and the cycle repeats. Each clearance costs money but solves nothing permanently.

Grease is the worst offender. In kitchen drain lines, liquid fats cool and solidify on the pipe walls, building up layer after layer. A drain machine breaks through the centre of the grease mass, but the walls remain coated. Without jetting, the grease continues to accumulate from both sides until the pipe is blocked again.

Tree roots present a similar challenge. Mechanical cutting removes the root mass from the pipe bore, but fine root fibres embedded in joints and cracks regrow rapidly. Jetting blasts these fibres out of the pipe and cleans the joint areas, delaying regrowth and extending the time between maintenance visits.

If you have had your drain cleared more than twice in the past year, jetting is almost certainly the intervention you need. It addresses the underlying buildup, not just the symptom.

## How We Jet Your Drains

1

### Access & Assessment

We identify the most effective access point — manhole, rodding eye, or internal connection — and assess the pipe material, diameter, and condition to select the correct nozzle and pressure setting.

2

### Initial Clearance

If the drain is fully blocked, we perform an initial mechanical clearance to restore basic flow. This allows the jetting water and debris to drain away during the main cleaning process.

3

### High-Pressure Jetting

We insert the jetting hose and clean the full length of the pipe section, working systematically to ensure complete coverage. Multiple passes are made where heavy deposits are present.

4

### Debris Removal

Dislodged material is flushed to the downstream manhole, where we remove it from the system. This prevents the debris from causing secondary blockages further down the line.

5

### CCTV Verification

Where appropriate, we run a camera through the jetted section to confirm the pipe is clean, check for structural defects revealed by removing deposits, and provide before-and-after evidence of the cleaning.

## Benefits of High Pressure Jetting

### Full-Bore Cleaning

Jetting cleans the entire pipe wall — not just a channel through the middle. The result is a pipe that flows at full capacity, not a temporarily cleared path through existing deposits.

### Prevents Recurring Blockages

By removing the buildup that causes blockages to return, jetting extends the time between maintenance visits from weeks to months or years.

### Effective on All Deposits

Grease, fat, scale, silt, soap residue, tree root fibres, concrete splatter, and compacted waste — jetting removes them all. No chemical additives required.

### Safe for All Pipe Materials

Our engineers adjust pressure settings for each pipe material. PVC, clay, concrete, cast iron, and pitch fibre can all be safely jetted at appropriate pressures without risk of damage.

### Environmentally Clean

Jetting uses only water. No chemicals, no solvents, no toxic products enter your drainage system or the environment. The dislodged material is captured and disposed of responsibly.

### Cost-Effective Long-Term

One jetting session typically costs less than two standard clearances — but provides months or years of clear drainage. The total cost of maintenance drops significantly.

## High Pressure Jetting: Equipment, Methods & Applications

We operate trailer-mounted and van-mounted jetting units capable of delivering water at pressures from 1,500 PSI (for delicate or small-diameter pipes) to 4,000 PSI (for heavily fouled large-diameter systems). The higher the pressure, the more effective the cleaning — but pressure must be matched to pipe material and condition to avoid damage.

Nozzle selection is critical to effective jetting. Forward-firing nozzles penetrate blockages and break through compacted material. Rear-firing nozzles propel the hose forward and clean the pipe wall. Rotating nozzles provide 360-degree coverage for heavy scale removal. Root-cutting nozzles combine high-pressure water with mechanical cutting action to remove root masses.

For commercial kitchen drainage, we use specialist degreasing nozzles designed to strip grease from pipe walls efficiently. Commercial kitchens generate enormous volumes of fat, oil, and grease (FOG) that standard jetting may not fully remove in a single pass. Our degreasing nozzles use a combination of high pressure and optimised spray patterns to break the bond between grease and pipe surface.

Frequency of jetting depends on usage. Domestic properties with recurring blockages typically need jetting once — then standard maintenance keeps the system clear. Restaurant kitchens benefit from quarterly jetting as part of a maintenance programme. Industrial systems may need monthly or bi-monthly jetting depending on effluent composition.

Jetting is also used as a preparation step before [drain relining](/services/drain-relining). The pipe must be thoroughly clean for the liner resin to bond to the pipe wall. Our jetting cleans to the standard required for successful liner adhesion — CCTV inspection confirms cleanliness before the lining process begins.

In shared drainage systems — common in terraced housing, flats, and commercial complexes — jetting benefits all connected properties. Cleaning the shared main line improves flow for every connection, reducing complaints and preventing disputes between neighbours or tenants about maintenance responsibilities.

Water consumption during jetting is typically 40–80 litres per minute depending on the unit and nozzle specification. We connect to your external tap or carry an independent water supply for sites without accessible mains water. The environmental impact is minimal — far less than the chemical alternatives and significantly more effective.
